Maths –

wc 14.09 – This week began with a quick consolidation and recap of learning last week. The children worked in pairs and made some beautiful posters to share their ideas. When then did some work on partitioning numbers which helped when we started adding and subtracting two-digit numbers with and without regrouping. We then considered the ‘make ten’ strategy to add and subtract numbers with regrouping. With lots of practice we will be able to do this easily. Well done children.

wc 31.08 & 07.09 – To start the year, we did an ‘all about me’ maths sheet! Was lovely to see the children take care in their first bit of work. We then revisited some Year 2 learning and did some number bond work and then recognising two-digit numbers. Amazing work!

 

English –

wc 14.09 – Another busy week in English this week. The children have planned a debate, considering reason for and reasons against living in the Stone Age. We then went to the call and had a class debate where children were able to argue both sides of the argument – they made some excellent points! We then moved away from the Stone Age Boy, for now, and considered persuasive speeches linking to choosing our Year 3 Turtles School Councillors. Great work this week Turtles!

wc 07.09 – This week in English, we have introduced our class text, ‘The Stone Age Boy’ (written by Satoshi Kitamura). Before reading the book, the children made predictions and inferences about what they think might happen in the book based on the front cover. The children then listened carefully to the story as the boy falls into the Stone Age and back again. They began using a thesaurus to upskill their vocabulary when describing a page from the book and we even had time to do some freeze frames in a drama lesson linked to our story! What a busy first week – keep up the hard work.

wc 31.08 – It was lovely to hear about and then read what the children did over the Summer Holidays! They drew their summer in snapshots and then wrote sentences about their holidays, sounded like the children (and parents/carers) had a very busy summer!

 

Reading -

wc 07.09 & 14.09 – The children have been working hard to quiz these past two weeks. It has been lovely to see the children reading beautifully after break and sharing their books with each other.

wc 31.08 – Wow! The enthusiasm for taking the Star Reading Test was refreshing! Every child tried their hardest to ace the star reading quiz. We then chose books based on the right level and even went to the library.

 

Science –

wc 14.09 – An investigate this week… we were considering which type of rocks would be good for different things. The investigation we did was to see which type of rock would be good for a roof – slate, a nonpermeable rock, was the winner! Good investigating Turtles.

wc 07.09 – We have begun our Science topic all about Rocks and Soils. The first lesson made children consider what we already knew about different rock and soils and what we might like to find out! We also sorted some rocks into different groups.

 

Theme (History) –

wc 07.09 & 14.09 – In History, our new topic has been introduced. This half term we are learning all about the Stone Age. The first two weeks we tackled the topic of ‘prehistory’ and the children considered what jobs different archaeologists do. It was wonderful to see the children link our English text (‘The Stone Age Boy’) to our History topic at the mention of archaeologists!

 

French –

wc 14.09 – In French this week, the children started to learn greetings. It was wonderful to see them having a go to say different greetings in French and match up the words to the pictures to help them remember. Keep up the good work!

wc 07.09 – The children were so excited to start their first ever French lesson this week! The enthusiasm was lovely to see as we started to explore France as a place, talking about different landmarks and even some of the food! Keep up the enthusiasm children, well done.

 

Art –

wc 07.09 – The children were so enthusiastic during art, drawing some typical British animals. We looked at different shapes we could see to help us sketch the different animals. They were also excited to learn that this topic links to our Stone Age topic in History and we will eventually be producing some Stone Age cave painting art!

 

Computing –

wc 31.08 & 07.09 – The past two weeks, the children have had the opportunity to use TTRS! They are incredible at focusing when answering questions to gain coins! This is such great practice of their times tables – please see the ‘Notes’ page in your child’s HSCB for their log in so they can ‘jam out’ at home!

 

Music –

A polite reminder: the children will need their recorder every Wednesday. Keyboards take place on Monday. Thank you 😊

wc 14.09 – Due to unforeseen circumstances, Emily was not able to make their keyboard session this week. However, Mrs Humphreys had the children playing along with some music as well as introducing different types of notes. Fab work Turtles!

wc 07.09 – The children had their first Year 3 keyboard and recorders lesson this week. Emily the keyboard teacher was impressed with how hard they tried. Mrs Humphreys spoke to the children about the different types of recorders there are and also showed them the note ‘B’.

 

PE –

A polite reminder: the children will need their PE kits on a Tuesday and Thursday. Thank you 😊 PE this half term is all focused-on Invasion Games with Mrs Dickson-Davies and Multi Skills with me!

wc 14.09 – In invasion games this week, the children were working on confidently demonstrating control within their movements. There was also a focus on creating a positive attitude. This week in multi skills, the children were following different rules and expectations while communicating with others. They had to travel using the different skills from last week whilst adding equipment to make things trickier and ensure they followed the rules set! The concentration within the hall was lovely to see and so many of them still managed to cheer others on as well! Keep up the good PE work Turtles.

wc 07.09 – During their invasion game lesson, the children were performing fundamental movement skills whilst demonstrating control and balance. This week in multi skills, the children learning to show confidence and creativity within their movements by look for and finding space, changing speed and direction, dodging others. They loved the car game we played to start!

The children also had a Hotshots taster session with some fun and quick games. It was lovely to see them laughing and smiling whilst learning some basketball skills at the same time.
